The Director of Pre-Construction is responsible for the development, design, estimation, bid solicitation, vendor development and application of our pneumatic tube systems (PTS). 

 

In support of the organization, the Pre-Construction Director leads a group of Estimating Engineers, Quality & Training Specialists, and a Pre-Construction Coordinator. This team provides system design, application and layout, project surveying, estimating, system installation training and quality reviews and subcontractor procurement and development. 

 

The Pre-Construction Director is responsible for establishing and enforcing best practices as related to estimating, design, quality, and the RFP process. The Director also oversees the Estimate and Risk Review process and ensures compliance.

Make an impact

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the pre-construction team in the achievement of its objectives. 
  • Provides oversight of the estimating and design processes including:
    • Submission of system designs and workflow configurations.  
    • Estimating of all transport related projects including construction and modernization.
    • Review of engineering reports, technical specifications, contractual documentation, project qualifications and/or other documentation required to support the system design, estimate(s) and sales proposals.
    • Preventive Maintenance Agreement (PMA) and Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) estimates.
  • In addition to standard department KPIs, creates and manages KPIs that revolve around estimating, pre-construction and quality activities. Complete additional reporting as required for senior leadership. 
  • Monitors and balances workload of team members to ensure timely delivery of services, and reviews their work.
  • Drafts, and ensures adherence to, department budget.
  • Manages the team and is responsible for generating estimate and design requests as part of the workload distribution to the team, monitoring workload capacity and demand.
  • Oversees the Estimate and Risk Review process to ensure compliance and appropriate costing as it relates to the scope of work.
  • Plans, schedules and provides resource training for both new and existing staff to maintain a high-level of system design, estimating, buying, and product application quality.
  • Represents the department, as appropriate, at sales presentations.
  • Provides direction, guidance and training to the team on the proper application, design and cost estimating for Swisslog’s pneumatic tube systems.
  • Defines and enforces department operating policies and procedures.
  • Acts as the product manager and guides development of the Engagement estimating tool.
  • Executes the company’s performance management process including writing performance appraisals, recommending salary increases and delivering performance appraisals to staff.
  • Travels as needed to assist with remote employee development, and to participate in customer meetings and/or internal company or team meetings.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

What you need to succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
  • 3-5 years of experience managing a team of technical/engineering personnel or demonstrated project leadership managing client project teams. 
  • Experience and knowledge of construction processes and procedures. 
  • Self-starting individual who has proven track record and will thrive in a team environment.
  • Organizational knowledge of hospitals and the hospital market.
  • Good interpersonal, presentation and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed to assist with remote employee development, and to participate in customer meetings and/or internal company or team meetings.


Desirable, but not Essential:

  • Master’s degree in a technical field or MBA
  • 3-5 years of pneumatic tube industry experience.
  • CAD and/or BlueBeam experience.

 

Compensation:  Salary range for this position is $105,000 - $130,000, plus bonus. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skillset. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical / dental / vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, disability, 401k matching (up to 8%).
