The Manager Controls Engineering leads a team of Controls Engineers and Controls Technicians assigned to performing controls design & development, on-site implementation and commissioning of controls intensive project activities, and providing Level 2 & Level 3 support of electro-mechanical and controls incidents and problems being managed by the global helpdesk. The manager is responsible for the management and scheduling of Customer Service controls resources, and they are accountable for assuring project implementation work performed by their team is completed within agreed project budgets, deadlines, and quality standards.
The Manager Controls Engineering assumes a high level of ownership for the hiring, retention, and development of the Customer Service Controls Team.

Technical Lead task
• Support the CS Directors in evaluating technologies, tools and techniques to be used across the department.
• Collaborate with counterparts in other departments, regions, and the technology centers to establish controls standards.
• Work with Director of Engineering and Controls Team Leads to identify team member needs and training opportunities, internal and external to the organization.
• Project Engineering Support Task:
o Work with CS Account managers team to price new projects in support of Sales efforts.
o Work with Integration Engineering team to specify components and resource needs for upcoming projects. Work with assigned PM to establish project schedules.
• Work with Controls Team Leads and other Department Team Leads to develop and implement CL standards and procedures to aid more successful implementations of Realization department projects.
• Ensure that all Controls resources within the team understand and follow existing standards and implementation guidelines.
Line Manager task
• Lead a team of Controls Team Leads, Controls Engineers, and Controls Technicians in performing on-site implementation and commissioning of controls intensive projects and providing Level 2 support of electro-mechanical and controls incidents and problems being managed by the global support desk.
• Oversee the development of work instructions and work packages for projects to guide project implementation resources assigned to projects.
• Ensure all members working on assigned projects have remote access and knowledge how to connect.
• Schedule/Coordination: Work with PMO Manager and the PMs to schedule projects throughout the year.
o Assign Controls resources to projects based on skill level and knowledge.
o Assess prep work necessary for project and assign time to Controls resources assigned to the project to complete prep work.
• Set staffing levels based on historical trends, current needs, and future department projections.
• GSD Support: Regularly meet with GSD Manager to review incident resolution performance from team’s area of responsibility.
o Prioritize and assign Controls resources that do not have project obligations to GHD support.
• Effectively manage team members in line with company policies and procedures, including performance management, planning individual development, and managing conflict resolution.
o Proactively report to management, so that they are well informed of the work currently in development.
• Implement team goals and objectives, supervise, train and guide team members:
o Follow up with projects after they are completed to assess for areas of improvement.
o Provide team members assessment and feedback in Annual and semiannual reviews.
o Perform lessons learned sessions with his team members: Did the Controls resource do enough prep work? Was enough time allotted for work? Was work of adequate quality?
• Follow up with Controls resources to ensure project documentation is being updated after project is complete.
o Controls repository and projects folders.
o Provide redlines in a timely fashion
What you need to succeed
Essential
• BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science / or equivalent experience in the field of Automation or Electrical / Controls engineering.
• Several years industrial experience with sound knowledge of PLC Platforms in either Siemens S7 (Step 7 v5 or TIA Portal) or Rockwell (ControlLogix Allen-Bradley).
• Be able to read and interpret electrical schematic drawings.
• Experience in the management of subcontractors delivering electrical installations and control systems.
• Excellent word processing and spreadsheet skills.
• Application knowledge of Swisslog warehouse systems (conveyors, monorail, etc.).
• Experience building and leading teams.
• Practical experience of electrical / controls engineering & electrical installations
• Knowledge of Industrial Ethernet and modern field buses (e.g. PROFIBUS, ASi), AC drives and design experience of HMI systems would be an advantage.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to clearly communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to give constructive feedback and hold others accountable
• Travel as required to support projects
Desired
• Siemens Certified Programmer - SIMATIC S7 with STEP7 v5.
• Siemens Certified Programmer - SIMATIC S7 with TIA Portal.
• Knowledge of other PLC Automation platforms such as: Rockwell (ControlLogix Allen Bradley), Modicon, Fanuc and Mitsubishi.
• Application knowledge of Swisslog warehouse systems (conveyors, monorail, cranes, etc).
• Several years industrial experience working with automated warehousing systems.
• Experience working with network communication (VLAN’s, Layers 2 and 3 Setup, IP Addresses, Subnets, etc).
